OCTOBER '06. . . Social Evening

We've been out and about a few times in the past year,
our first major fundraiser was the Social held at the Vietnam
Veterans Club in Kingston.
A hangi and entertainment were on the agenda, a raffle was run
and some fun was had.

Trial and error we came out of that one with a plus sign over our
bank account!! Everything has a positive side to it and we saw the
things that could be improved for our next venture...

FEBRUARY '07 . . .Waitangi Celebrations

Every year Waitangi Day Celebrations have been held out at the Kingston
factory. This year we were to have a stall selling 500 hangi.
Our meetings were held to determine what members were doing
what jobs and ideas were put forth for extra things that we
might sell on the side.

Saturday afternoon the workers of the Te Tirohanga-A-Iwi met
at the Vietnam Vets Club to prepare the food.
The menfolk begun their long mahi sometime around midnight
when the fire was lit and nursed until the wee hours and the food
baskets were laid in the pit and covered.

By about 9am Sunday morning we had a work force of under 20
members who lined an extremely long table on either side to cut
and spoon kai into the individual tinfoil packs. Our ladies who had
worked hard to get the gazebo up on site at the Butter Factory
carried on with their work of selling when we were done with the
packing and we all came away quite proud of ourselves.

The fact that we were a little short of 500 didn't dampen our moods
and when we heard the amount going into our bank account, we
were all rapt with our efforts.

With this Waitangi day over Te Tirohanga-A-Iwi recieved curiosity
from the public. People wanted to know what our Kaupapa was.

November '08 . . .Xmas Social

Our Roaring 20's Night had left us with a bit of a loss financially
and so a member proposed a quick fix to get our account back up a wee bit.
Our next fundraiser was a Xmas Social held at Moreton Bay Sports Club.
We had a great crowd and great sounds as well as food platters that went around
periodically throughout the evening. I'd say it was a great turn out with a great crowd
who hopefully enjoyed their evening.
